Professor Adrian Wilson is a world-leading Knee and Sports Injury Specialist. Professor Wilson specialises in all aspects of soft tissue and reconstructive knee surgery and has pioneered techniques to improve treatment for sports injuries to the knee. He is also a leading authority in diagnosing and treating children’s knee problems.
During the course of his 25-year career, Professor Wilson has carried out over 500 knee realignment procedures (osteotomies) and, within his team, has data on the results of over 1,000 procedures, the biggest series of its kind in the world.
He has developed a number of evidence-based techniques which include new, minimally invasive procedures for knee realignment (osteotomy) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair. This includes a minimally invasive technique to treat anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in children that has a fast recovery time and excellent long-term results.
Professor Wilson has also helped to pioneer and develop the new anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstruction technique which dramatically improves the outcome of ACL reconstruction surgery. His methods have become routine practice globally for many leading knee surgeons and have revolutionised ACL treatment for children and adults.
Most recently, he has introduced Adipose Tissue Therapy, often used alongside other surgery, which harnesses the body’s own natural repair cells to help reduce pain and increase activity levels for patients with arthritis.
Innovation and training is core to Professor Wilson’s practice. He regularly performs live surgery at major meetings and runs surgical training events including The Knee Osteotomy Masterclass, a two-day workshop held annually. He also runs a successful Fellowship programme for senior orthopaedic surgeons in training.
Professor Wilson is a member of the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) Osteotomy and Arthroscopy committees.
